Wisconsin Dairy Sheep Influence A National Industry

View descriptionShare

Even though the dairy sheep program at the Spooner Agricultural Research Station came to a close in 2016, dairy sheep producers in Wisconsin are still working to improve genetics to grow sheep dairy and processing capacity across the U.S. Mariana Marques de Almeida at Ms. J & Co. is one example. She is truly a woman of all trades – co-founder of the business, an animal scientist, a cheesemaker, and a breeder. At the sheep dairy farm in Monroe, she and her business partner raise 800 Assaf sheep. This is a breed she brought into the United States nearly a decade ago. It’s her goal to expand the dairy sheep industry in the United States. And she says it’s now possible with the improved genetics of her Assaf sheep. If you want to be a part of the Monroe Cheese Days farm tour that will make a stop at Ms. J. & Co., find those details here: https://www.cheesedays.com/farm-tours
