Since 90% of Wisconsin's cheese is sold outside of Wisconsin, it's incredibly important that Dairy Farmers of Wisconsin is proactive on working with grocery store chains, food retailers, and international markets. Tim Multerer, vice president of dairy company communications, is park of that team helping increase sales.
Over the past 37 years, Wisconsin on-farm milk production has grown 29% while production of Wisconsin cheese has grown 93%, so expanding the markets Wisconsin cheese lands is critical. Multerer and his team work directly with Wisconsin cheesemakers to maximize the benefits they're seeing out of existing programs within Dairy Farmers of Wisconsin. One example of that is the Proudly Wisconsin badge. Multerer tells Pam Jahnke that the number of dairy products carrying the Proudly Wisconsin Cheese or Proudly Wisconsin Dairy badges increases year after year.
Multerer says with more cheese plants coming online outside of Wisconsin, it's more critical now than ever to continue to amplify the quality difference Wisconsin cheesemakers bring to the retail space.
