Whatever the case may be, family is always there for you. Steven and Rogene Wegner up in Shawano County describe to us a little bit more about their Sesquicentennial farm. Steven and Rogene Wegner - Shawano County Sesquicentennial Farm

Ellen Schutt has stepped into a new role as Executive Director of the Wisconsin FFA Foundation. She grew up on her family’s farm in Darien, Wisconsin, where they still raise cattle and crops today.

“I loved FFA growing up,” Schutt said. “I was our chapter Sentinel and competed in many different events.” After high school, she attended UW-Madison and joined the Collegiate FFA chapter.

However, her career path took a turn toward politics. For seven years, she worked as a legislative staff member, focusing on agriculture and education issues. Later, she served as a state representative for communities in Rock and Walworth Counties.

“Life changes, and I found this new role with the FFA Foundation,” Schutt shared.

U.S. Milk Is The Cheapest In Town & Temple Grandin Reflects On Career

A trusted tool that helps Wisconsin farmers make smart financial decisions is getting a fresh start in 2025. The Wisconsin Custom Rate Survey, which shows the average prices charged for farming services across the state, is now being handled directly by the University of Wisconsin–Madison Division of Extension.

“This survey gives farmers the power of information,” said Brian Luck, University Extension Agricultural Engineer. “It helps them understand what others are paying or charging for everything from planting to harvest.”

In the past, the Wisconsin Agricultural Statistics Service conducted the survey. But due to rising costs, the Extension team decided to take it on themselves. “The costs just got too high,” Luck said. “So we looked at how other states do it and decided to build our own version in-house.”
