Robert Sandman's family century farm in Bangor, La Crosse County, has a rich history that dates back to his grandfather's arrival from Germany in 1882. His grandfather purchased the land in 1921 and 1924, establishing a farm that initially raised a mix of animals, including pigs, chickens, and cows. Robert's father passed away suddenly in 1978, leaving the farm to him. Over the years, the farm evolved from a dairy operation to a cash crop farm. Despite the challenges, including the loss of his mother in 2017, Robert takes pride in the legacy of his family's hard work and dedication to farming. He reflects fondly on memories of growing up on the farm, fishing by the creek and working the land. As the third generation, Robert feels a deep connection to his family's history and is honored to continue their legacy, even as the farm's future remains uncertain.
