Research Stations Share Stories On Fires And Give Tips On How To Prepare

Apple production is looking to be ahead of normal bloom time and production level. This is according to Jacob Franzen, farm manager at Ski-Hi Fruit Farm in Baraboo. He says despite the excess rain the state has been getting, they’ve been lucky to avoid severe flooding. He explains how the crop is looking but first tells us more about how Ski-Hi got started.

After a wet spring, expect flies. Dr. Scott Pertzborn is one of the owners at Lodi Veterinary Care, specializing in dairy cattle, beef herds, and small farm animals, too. He says flies need moisture to breed. He has strategies to mitigate the fly population on the farm. He joins Stephanie Hoff and says it starts by examining where they’re coming from.

Ice cream is the perfect treat on hot and muggy days in the summer. But if only the ice cream could be as enjoyable if it didn't melt. Well that possibility could be true due to extensive research being done on "no melt ice cream." Dr. Cameron Wicks joins Aubrey Schlimgen to share more about her research.

Matt Tokarski is the 4th generation on his families farm in Jefferson County. They are celebrating 100 years this year with his great grandparents starting the farm in 1924. 

In the 1950s Matt's Grandparents took the farm over and got into chickens, with 3,000 laying hens while also milking cows. Also in the 1960's Interstate 94 was built which took off 10 acres of their farm land. 

The farm skipped a Generation with Matt's parents taking a step back from farming, while his grandpa still kept things going. But now Matt oversees the farm with him and his wife raising beef cattle and cash crops. Along with boarding horses and raising their 3 year old little girl.
