Patrick Schley - Door County Centennial Farm

View descriptionShare

It's crazy to think about what our ancestors did to make ends meet during troubling times when there wasn't technology like phones or cars. These are stories that have been passed down through Wisconsin's farming families. We're bringing you another story from this year’s Century and Sesquicentennial Farm honorees. These families will get an award during the Wisconsin State Fair for farming the same land for over 100 or 150 years. Patrick Schley is celebrating his family's Centennial Farm in Door County. He tells us the story of how his great-grandfather, Wolfgang, came to America to escape war and start a new life in Wisconsin. Once he got here, it wasn't all easy -- Wolfgang and his new bride walked 90 miles with their oxen to get to what is now the family farm. These stories are brought to you courtesy of Compeer Financial. Pictured: Where the two silos are, are the last two buildings left. The new highway is very close to where the barn silo was. Renards Cheese is right across the road. That was originally Patrick's grandfather Schley’s cheese factory.
