Holiday's can be a wonderful time!  Families coming together.  Friends reconnecting.  New experiences.  It can also be an awful time for people that are isolated and alone.

AARP of Wisconsin is continuing to deploy resources to have help individuals and their families manage through.  Amber Miller, Senior Associate State Director of Outreach with AARP of Wisconsin, visits with Pam Jahnke about the resources that are free, and available to anyone that needs them.

Miller says that although many of the resources are available online, AARP also recognizes that many 50+ individuals may be in rural areas that don't have internet access, or aren't comfortable with technology.  That's why they've also created a call system that can help reach those individuals that struggle with loneliness.

AARP Friendly Voice program has trained, caring volunteers who are ready to chat, listen or just say hello. You can request a call by dialing AARP at 888-281-0145 or visit  AARP Friendly Voice: Connecting People to People. This is free and for people 18+yrs old.

Miller also says AARP works to assist people that may feel elevated levels of isolation after the loss of a partner, or adjusting to retirement and extra time available.  They've created a "virtual community center".

Finally Miller reminds everyone that AARP is a part of the Wisconsin Coalition for Social Connection.  This group is also about deploying resources to overcome dark feelings that can get amplified during the holidays, and cold, dark days of winter in Wisconsin.
