New Book Explores Hope & History Of Disappearing Farms

View descriptionShare

Farm numbers are declining. But Wisconsin author and fourth-generation farmer Brian Reisinger reminds us that not all of these exits are sad stories. Farmers retire (no one can work forever) and sometimes the next generation doesn't want to take over. Consolidation of farms has also been a tool to support more family members on a farm or to keep the neighbor's land in production if they exit the business, he says. But are there other factors at play that have reduced farm numbers over the decades? Reisinger released a new book, "Land Rich, Cash Poor," that explores agriculture's untold history through the lens of his own dairy farm family. He also pulls in industry experts to speak to the challenges and opportunities in today's farm economy.
