From removing molars to milking cows – that’s quite the transition, but so far it’s working for Tollemissov Mahan. He is a dentist by training in southern Kazakhstan but has recently taken an interest in agriculture. He's in Wisconsin exploring best herd management practices and farm technology with UW-River Falls. He’s been dairy farming for a year now and is waiting on news from the Kazakhstan government on if he has been approved for their dairy expansion program. The country is giving low-interest loans to dairy farmers to grow dairy production. This is because the country is only producing about a quarter of what it needs for fluid milk. In a translated interview, Mahan tells Mid-West Farm Report about dairy farming in Kazakhstan. Razak Bauyrzhan translates the interview.
