Foremost Farms Confident In The New Year

View descriptionShare

Foremost Farms CEO Greg Schlafer is confident about the cooperative's position to weather 2024's unique set of challenges. He retraces his footsteps with Pam Jahnke in the new office space in Middleton. It's part of a strategic plan that Schlafer put in place to position the food ingredient cooperative in a market with labor, laboratory resources and collaborators.

Pam Jahnke visits with Randy Kath of The Steffes Group. This paid program pulls out trends in the used equipment market. For example, the auction business is seeing steady demand for used tractors.

Prof. Chad Hart, a market economist out of Iowa State University, walks us through the challenges that face corn and soybeans in the new year. The general theme -- demand needs to be stronger internationally in order for producers to see better prices.

It's a crop we don't typically talk about, but it is thriving in urban settings. Mushrooms! Andrew Griffin’s story of how he began farming mushrooms is just as unique as how the crop is grown. He owns MicroMyco Growers in downtown Madison serving a growing customer base of restaurants and foodies.
