Child Care & Health Insurance Woes Inhibit Farm Success

View descriptionShare

Challenges on the farm? Maybe your mind first moves to equipment malfunctions, animal health, or crop conditions. Weather and markets probably top the list, too. But Farm Management Outreach Specialist Stephanie Plaster says more and more families struggle with navigating child care and health insurance options. She calls these "hidden challenges" on farms.

Stephanie is hosting a workshop on how to address child care and health insurance needs at the Marshfield Public Library on March 26.

The Health Insurance Training will teach participants how to connect health and insurance to farm and family well-being, manage health insurance as part of farm risk, explore insurance options, and budget for insurance costs. The Child Care Training will help participants understand the impact of childcare on farm life, integrate child care into farm risk management, design family-friendly farm enterprises, and budget for child care costs.
