UW-Madison is celebrating 175 years, and to help celebrate has been on a tour all across Wisconsin. This stop in particular was at the Badger Veterinary Hospital in Janesville. 

Tod Pritchard works at the Wisconsin Foundation and Alumni Association, and helped organized this tour. His hope with this tour was to help people see the direct correlation between the students education at UW-Madison to their possible careers. With Badger Veterinary Hospital being no expectation as we see a shortage in Veterinarians today. With this partnership and tour he was thrilled to see lots of needed conversation tacking place.

Celebrating 175 Years with a Stop at Badger Veterinary Hospital

More than 300 agriculture educators and FFA advisors got together to share ideas, resources and support, at the Wisconsin Association of Agricultur Educators(WAAE) summer conference in Oshkosh.

Collaboration was a major theme when visiting with instructors.  The new president of WAAE, Mary Handrich from Denmark, is continuing to build bridges with local technical colleges to leverage their assets with what she's presenting in the classroom.

Handrich says that agriculture instructors across the state have been in contact with local technical colleges creating new ways to not only help students explore career options, but also get them there faster.  With shared college credits being taught at the high school level, students not only find their career path faster, they also do it in an affordable way.

Handrich says she intends to continue to work on helping other teachers discover what technical college partners might be available to them. She also wants to continue to expand her own program with community outreach projects, which she says, are largely driven by students.  "What I love is when students ask me if they can try something."  She says seeing them engage in the process reinforces what education is all about.

New President Of WI Ag Educators - Mary Handrich

Ashley Hagenow from Poynette WI, finishes her year as Alice in Dairyland on July 8th. She recalls lots of fond memories and recaps what her year of service looked like. While also elaborating on what's to come to for the hopes of this program.

With the severe weather surprising many communities in Wisconsin, it's important that farmers and land owners know the NRCS is there.

Terry Cosby is the Chief of the Natural Resources Conservation Service, and was in Madison for the Sand County Foundations National Conservation Symposium.  Cosby has been with NRCS for over 4 decades, but continues to try and help people better understand all the functions and programs that they offer.

Cosby also noted that from wildfires to flooding, NRCS plays a critical role in immediately responding to needs, as well as supporting rebuilding and reinforcement of infrastructure after weather events.
