Dan Christensen is the general lab manager at the Wisconsin Veterinary Diagnostic Lab, providing testing to private veterinarians and working closely with state animal health officials on disease outbreak response, including the highly pathogenic avian influenza. Right now, they’re undergoing the national milk testing surveillance program. He says it took Wisconsin a little longer to get started with the testing surveillance because our industry is unique from other states – we’re testing individual farms instead of a group -- silo -- at once. The WVDL has a robot to increase efficiency at the lab. Wisconsin has also been instrumental in helping California with its milk testing. Wisconsin has not had a positive case in dairy cattle.
