44% of road fatalities registered between 1 to the 16th of December 2025 were pedestrians, a number that remains disproportionately high. The mid-term review of the 2025 Festive Season Road Safety
Campaign indicated a 20.9% reduction in fatal crashes and a 20.8% decrease in fatalities compared with the same period last year. Experts warn that much needs to be done to build roads that are
safe for use by pedestrians, while also highlighting the need for pedestrian road safety education.
