Extortionists are now targeting initiates as they demand money from parents in exchange of guaranteeing the safety of their children at initiation schools. December is initiation season in some parts of the country with young boys taking part in the tradition as they transition to adulthood.  Several cases have been reported in the Eastern Cape and the Western Cape.
