LLRIB Chief Tammy Cook-Searson speaks with MBC News about Ottawa's decision not to negotiate on treaty annuity payments

The Lac La Ronge Indian Band says it is ready to take legal action against the federal government following the rejection of its claim to increase the $5 treaty annuity payment.

The claim, submitted in February 2025, argued that the annuity should be adjusted to keep up with inflation and preserve its purchasing power.

In response, the federal government maintains it is under no legal obligation to raise the payment.

MBC's Joel Willick spoke with Chief Tammy Cook-Searson about the concerns from the band.
