The board is contemplating the formation of a study group to thoroughly examine the implications and potential outcomes of such a rule change. Factors such as advancements in technology and evolving legal standards regarding technology regulation were highlighted as significant considerations in their deliberations. In lieu of audiovisual presentations, the board encourages the public to submit visual materials in alternative formats, including physical copies for clerical distribution, email submissions prior to meetings, or sharing links directly with board members. The ongoing discussions reflect the board's effort to balance technological integration with procedural efficiency and accessibility. The Board of Commissioners convenes at 9 a.m. on Tuesdays at 100 Cherokee St. in Marietta.

Nicki Davis-Cosby, a lecturer at Kennesaw State University (KSU), mourns the loss of Alasia Franklin, a student who was fatally shot outside the Austin Residence Complex on KSU's Kennesaw campus. Investigations are ongoing into the circumstances surrounding the accident.

STORY 3:Cobb Police Fatally Shoot Man Driving Stolen Truck

In Mableton, Cobb County Police fatally shot 40-year-old Clifford Jacoby Beck from Griffin, Georgia, after he attempted to flee in a stolen truck. Police boxed in the truck at a gas station, where a passenger exited but Beck tried to escape, ramming into police cars. Officers fired shots, hitting Beck. The truck caught fire, and Beck was pulled out and taken to a hospital, where he later died. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is conducting an independent investigation into the incident.

His election comes amid increased turmoil for the NRA, including the resignation of former CEO Wayne LaPierre amidst allegations of corruption. Former Gov. Roy Barnes is seeking a settlement with Cobb County over zoning litigation to develop a subdivision on his farmland in Powder Springs. Initially denying a rezoning request for 114 homes, Barnes filed lawsuits alleging exclusionary zoning. The proposed settlement revises the plan to include 114 homes on 65 acres, with the rest as open space. Flood concerns from nearby residents persist, fearing increased flooding with densely packed houses. Barnes' attorney argues the plan addresses stormwater impacts. Residents prefer a more balanced approach like a recent 180-home proposal. The county will discuss the settlement at a zoning hearing.

Cobb Police Fatally Shoot Man Driving Stolen Truck

Cobb County Police Department officers fatally shot a man on Friday in Mableton while he was attempting to flee in a stolen truck, according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI). The individual, identified as 40-year-old Clifford Jacoby Beck from Griffin, Georgia, was shot after police cornered the truck he was driving into a Chevron gas station parking lot at Old Floyd Road and Fontaine Road. Officers fired at the vehicle when Beck tried to drive out of the lot, hitting police cars in the process. No officers were injured. 

The truck and one police car caught fire, and Beck was later pulled from the vehicle and given medical aid. He was transported to a nearby hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. The Cobb County Medical Examiner’s Office will perform an autopsy. An independent investigation by the GBI is ongoing, with the case file to be reviewed by the Cobb County District Attorney’s Office.

'Bittersweet': Historic Marietta Rectory Razed

Saint Joseph Catholic Church has embarked on a significant yet bittersweet demolition project that involved tearing down its historic rectory in Marietta. Nearly two centuries of history are being torn down as the rectory undergoes demolition due to severe safety concerns.

Monsignor John Walsh highlighted that mold, asbestos, and lead had made the rectory unsafe for its residents and visitors. The damage, which dates back to Christmas Day 2022, was caused by a burst pipe that led to extensive water damage, forcing priests to relocate.

Despite efforts from Cobb Landmarks to preserve the historical Sugar Hill House portion, the church decided to demolish the entire rectory. Built in 1852 and used as a field hospital during the Battle of Kennesaw Mountain, the rectory holds deep historical significance.

Facing over $2 million in restoration costs, the church chose to build a new rectory for about $1.2 million instead. While the decision was difficult, Monsignor Walsh emphasized that safety was paramount.

Saint Joseph Catholic Church has embarked on a significant yet bittersweet demolition project that involved tearing down its historic rectory in Marietta. Nearly two centuries of history are being torn down as the rectory undergoes demolition due to severe safety concerns.
Monsignor John Walsh highlighted that mold, asbestos, and lead had made the rectory unsafe for its residents and visitors. The damage, which dates back to Christmas Day 2022, was caused by a burst pipe that led to extensive water damage, forcing priests to relocate.
Despite efforts from Cobb Landmarks to preserve the historical Sugar Hill House portion, the church decided to demolish the entire rectory. Built in 1852 and used as a field hospital during the Battle of Kennesaw Mountain, the rectory holds deep historical significance.
Facing over $2 million in restoration costs, the church chose to build a new rectory for about $1.2 million instead. While the decision was difficult, Monsignor Walsh emphasized that safety was paramount.
