Episode 7 features the talented Helen Ryder, a Melbourne based singer who has sung across many genres throughout her career: pop, country, soul, blues, gospel and jazz throughout her career. Listen in to hear how she came to a musical career, why she chose the songs for her debut album 'Someday Love', what her influences are and the music has played a part in her journey so far.

Note: Please excuse the background noise at times towards the end of the interview - The crowd in St Kilda can get rowdy. I have tried everything nearly to get rid of it….

Welcome to Part 2 of Episode 6 Season 2 of Making of a Musician.

Listen to part 1 first here https://omny.fm/shows/making-of-a-musician/season-2-episode-6-idge-hehir-part-1

Episode 6 part 2 brings you Idge's best gig, favourite artist and how he goes about writng songs and working in the studio.

Flickering Stars are launching their debut album this month. https://www.instagram.com/theflickeringstars/

We talk about collecting instruments including toy drums, and how to learn to sing or practice.

It is an absolute pleasure to have had this time with Idge and listening to how he works and what he has learnt. I am pretty lucky to have worked with him over 4 different recordings too over the last 25 years.

This episode features music from different Australian Artists that have all got some Idge in them, either by playing on the recording or engineering it. Most artists come back to work with Idge because he is really good at his job too! So make sure you checkout Soundpark Studios in Northcote.

Making of a Musician Podcast featuring Interview with Idge Hehir from the band 'The Flickering Stars' and Soundpark Studios in Northcote Melbourne, Australia.

Season 2 Episode 6 Idge Hehir Part 2

Episode 6 of season 2 features Idge Hehir from the band 'The Flickering Stars' and Soundpark Studios in Northcote Melbourne, Australia.

This interview was done a while ago but it was worth the wait as it features some of the upcoming debut album "The Flickering Stars" by The Flickering stars. And if 'Blue Honey' and 'Clown Shoes' are anything to go by the album is going to be a killer. You can get ticket to the launch on the 20th of September 2026 here.

https://tickets.oztix.com.au/outlet/event/0174bbb5-0197-4ddb-97cc-c1c5a5f7714d

In part 1 we go through Idge's songwriting style, music that he paid attention 2 and a pretty cool first band sound. I was lucky enough to get some of Idge's earlier work too, so you will hear a little of how his sound has progressed in the last 25 years.

Since starting recording and engineering in Melbourne, out the back of Bakehouse in 2000, with a walk away with a CD in a day offer (which my band took up) Idge has been involved in recording some of MElbournes best known and unknown talent and has a mark on the Melbourne Music scene with at least 300 to 400 recordings including Dave Graney, The Basics, The Darling Downs, Hugo Race & The True Spirit, Amyl and the Sniffers and many more.

Sorry it has taken so long to get this wonderful interview to you all.

Life has definitely been happening in West Melbourne.

You will be seeing part 2 soon, like depending where you are it should already be out!
