To mark 50 Years since the Youth Uprisings of 1976- this Youth Month we are speaking to influential South Africans about what inspired their greatness in their youth.
Prof, Quarraisha Abdool Karim- the associate director for the Centre for the AIDS Programme of Research in South Africa (CAPRISA)- has trailblazed the path of science and epidemiology with her research on HIV prevention. She's been awarded South Africa’s highest civilian honour the Order of Mapungubwe: Bronze in 2013 for her outstanding work in global health policy and fighting the HIV epidemic. Last year she was elected as a Fellow of the UK's prestigious Royal Society.
But deep in her heart remains the memories of community development in her hometown Tongaat and her desire to use science to empower vulnerable women.
Prof. Quarraisha Abdool Karim joined us for a conversation to inspire todays youth with her youth story...
