South Africa marks 20 years since it began it's mass rollout of antiretroviral treatment for HIV positive patients. That resulted in a 50% reduction in new infections from 2010 to 2021. But still about 1.3 new HIV infections were recorded last year. The work never ends- and the country continues to research and design innovative ways to fight the epidemic. This World Aids Day Prof. Salim Abdool Karim- the Director of the Centre for the AIDS Program of Research in South Africa and Dr. Shandir Ramlagan- Senior Research Specialist in the Social Aspects of Public Health (SAPH) research unit of the Human Sciences Research Council joined us to discuss technological advancements in the fight against HIV/AIDS.
