Ambassador Bozell was in Durban to mark the 250th year anniversary of US Independence. It comes at a time when the two nations are starting to re-build relations. In April Roelf Meyer replaced former ambassador to the US Ebrahim Rasool, a move seen as step to mending diplomatic ties. But tensions have been well documented- since US President Donald Trump issued executive orders last February- which in effect halted U.S. foreign aid to South Africa and even sought to provide a refugee resettlement program prioritizing Afrikaners escaping alleged race-based discrimination and displacement.
