It's too soon to tell if EFF Leader Julius Malema will end up in prison. This as leave to appeal the five year sentence for unlawfully possessing of a firearm begins in earnest. Malema's legal team has a week to submit the application for leave to appeal. The court however dismissed the application by the defence to appeal the conviction. Julius Malema has been sentenced to five years direct imprisonment for unlawful possession of a firearm and two years imprisonment for unlawful possession of ammunition. The sentences will run concurrently. Malema was found guilty of contravening firearm controls when he discharged an automatic rifle in the air during the EFF's fifth birthday celebration in Mdantsane in 2018. To discuss the avenues available to Malema we were joined by Lawson Naidoo (Executive Secretary of the Council for the Advancement of the South African Constitution) and Prof. Ntsikelelo Breakfast (political expert).

Acclaimed South African playwright and performer Rajesh Gopie will present his one-man production Out of Bounds, a deeply moving exploration of identity, family and belonging in post-apartheid South Africa. The event aims to raise vital funds for Childline KZN, which provides counselling and crisis support to vulnerable children. The event will take place at the Milkwood Theatre on 9th May. Childline KZN Director, Adeshini Naicker explains the impact will this evening have on those who need it most....

By Newsbreak Producer, Tashlan Naidoo - The case against Siyabonga and Malusi Ndimande accused in the murders of Kiernan "AKA" Forbes and his friend Tebello "Tibz" Motsoane - has been formally transferred to the Durban High Court. The brothers face several charges including double murder, conspiracy to commit murder and attempted murder. Forbes and Motsoane were shot dead in February 2023 outside a restaurant on Florida Road in Durban. Khalesakhe Mbhense reports.....
