According to Adeshini Naicker, the Director of Childline KwaZulu-Natal, parents and other family members choose to be silent about the abuse against a child because of stigma and even because a suspected perpetrator financially provides for the family. Today marks the start of Child Protection Week, a time when the unpleasant truths about child abuse comes under scrutiny.
