#PODCAST A Durban father and son duo prepare to tackle a 10,000km cross-continent rally to combat Gender-Based Violence #sabcnews 

The businessman accused in the Tembisa Hospital fraud case, Stefan Joel Govindraju, has been granted 200-thousand rand bail by the Palm Ridge Specialised Commercial Crimes Court. The 37-year-old was arrested at OR Tambo International Airport after returning from overseas. In his bail application, Govindraju argued that he was not a flight risk, citing his family, business and financial ties to South Africa. In September 2025, the SIU uncovered the existence and operations of a large procurement network at Tembisa Hospital, referred to as Syndicate X. This syndicate is linked to Govindraju. Evidence from the SIU investigation shows that Govindraju is the director of at least 75 entities, 73 of which were irregularly appointed at Tembisa Hospital. During the period under review, these entities were awarded 1 237 contracts through a purported three-quote procurement process that did not comply with applicable procurement prescripts. Nepalese police say over four-thousand people are still unaccounted for including six South Africans. Hundreds of bodies, many unidentified, have been buried in shallow graves as they began decomposing in the humid weather in the plains of the Himalayan country after being swept down the mountains. Nepali officials said that the focus was on reaching the 933 workers believed to be trapped at 11 hydropower projects,including many in tunnels, in the two hard-hit districts. Head of Search and Rescue at the Gift of the Givers, Ahmed Bham explains the situation on the ground from contact with local authorities....

The Democratic Alliance has announced Haniff Hoosen as its mayoral candidate for the eThekwini Municipality ahead of the upcoming local government elections. The announcement was made in Durban earlier today as the party outlined its plans for the elections. The DA says it will contest all 112 wards in the metro. DA KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Chairperson Dean McPherson says 65 percent  of the party's candidates are new councillors, while 35 percent are returning councillors. Salma Patel filed this report.......
