42-year-old Navin Singh was shot dead as he tried to protect his 78-year-old mother from alleged intruders at his Clare Estate home in Durban. Word on the ground is that this isn't the first time that this family's home was broken into. The CRL Rights Commission has begun it's public consultations with different religious groups about it's impending Section 22 Committee- which seeks to form a self-regulatory framework for the Christian sector in the country. This is also extending to other religious groupings. But there has been growing push-back against the move. The South African Church Defenders filed papers in the Johannesburg High Court seeking to interdict the Commission's activities, while also calling for the removal of CRL Rights Commission chairperson Thoko Mkhwanazi-Xaluva. Hindu and Muslim groups have also raised concern. SA Church Defenders' Pastor Mpfariseni Mukhuba, Deputy President of the SA Hindu Maha Sabha Prof. Brij Maharaj and SA Muslim Network Dr. Faisal Suliman joined the conversation. The CRL Rights Commission was unable to participate in this discussion but Newsbreak Talk did carry their response...

The meeting forms part of consultations with the various religious communities in an effort to form a section 22 committee aimed at advancing social cohesion and to act as a conduit for nation building amongst the different groups.
