The Electoral Commission launched it's Communication Campaign launch held in Johannesburg this week- in a strong bif to make a positive impact on voter participation.
But are South Africans up-beat about going to the polls?
Well according to the Human Sciences Research Council's Voter Participation Survey- support for democracy is at a historic low, with preference for democracy falling from around 65% in mid-2000s to 36% in 2025/26.
As Election Season commences we discussed this data- to get a sense of where the electorate finds itself ahead of Local Government Elections 2026.
