The San Gabriel Band of Mission Indians, Tongva-Gabrielino, are the first and only state recognized tribe in the LA area, but how much do we actually know about the first Angelenos? In this capítulo, we’re joined by Samantha Johnson Yang and Mona Morales Recalde to discuss the history of the Tongva, their efforts to stop the poaching of white sage from Southern California wildlife reserves, and an ongoing battle to protect and preserve their tribal identity.
