This passage follows Jesus rebuke of the Scribes and Pharisees who failed to accept His message and the message of John the Baptist.  Jesus is denouncing legalism again here by reminding the Scribes and Pharisees that He’s not impressed with their fanfare and show.  Jesus is saying that His authority is being shown to the humble and receptive.  It’s not for people who think they know it all.
