Dear Mapaseka

I am writing to ask about the concept of forgiveness in a relationship; how
many times am I expected to forgive and can 100% trust truly be rebuilt
again? I am a 34 year old married man with two kids, I am a known member of
society as a counsellor and community member who is in the forefront on
solving community challenges.

My wife of 7 years is currently known as a woman who slept with the mayor’s
security team member. The security’s wife found them in bed in their home
and now the entire town talks about this and I am not able to avoid it in any
way.

The reason I stayed is because I myself had cheated once with a woman I
work with in the council offices. When my wife found out 4 years ago; I stopped the relationship and have never engaged in any activity with the lady. My wife also suffers from heavy mood swings and I often need to seek help at our local clinic for any medication that can help.

I changed my ways and she says she has stopped seeing the security but now
she is pregnant and we do not know who the child’s father will be. How do I remain a counsellor of this community and still manage my household and raise my children in a loving home; is there hope for us; can we forgive and have a happy marriage in this town?
