Dear Mapaseka
I am writing because I would like some advice regarding how I have been feeling
Lately. I gave birth to my baby in December, and my child is now six months old.
The baby's father and I are no longer together due to abuse that I experienced
during the relationship. Thankfully, I have worked hard on my healing, and I feel
that I have moved on from that chapter of my life.
For the first few months after giving birth, I focused entirely on my baby and
adjusting to motherhood. However, after returning to work, I started feeling like
myself again. I feel happier, more confident, and more open to companionship and
intimacy than I expected.
What confuses me is that I have developed feelings for a man at work who is ten
years younger than me. He is not the type of man I would normally go for, and
my mind keeps telling me that he is not right for me. Yet my heart seems drawn
to him. He is confident, persistent, and challenges me in ways that I find surprisingly
attractive.
At the same time, I am not necessarily looking for a serious relationship. I find that
my libido has increased significantly since having my baby, and sometimes I wonder whethe
feelings are genuine attraction, loneliness, a desire for companionship,
or simply a result of feeling like myself again after a difficult period in my life.
My question is: Is it normal to feel this way only six months after giving birth?
Should I trust these feelings, or should I give myself more time before pursuing
anything with someone new, especially someone younger than me? I am 36 years
old this year.
I would appreciate your thoughts and advice.
A Confused but Hopeful Mom
