Dear Mapaseka
My wife of 3 years is asking me to consider leaving my job and for us to go and take over the
farm in KZN. Her dad is ill and she is the closest to the dad even though her elder brother
helping the dad out with the business. She now wants us to leave our jobs in
Johannesburg, sell the house and move with our 1 year old baby. I am currently
a division manager at a financial institution and she believes we can build a greater
and more financially sustainable life taking over the farm. My concern is that she expects me to be stay at home dad as she leads the farm business with her brother and she can still do her job online wherever she is, so i will be the one to completely resign from my work. How will i even cope with their own family dynamics and living with her parents and brother. She says i will manage
the finances of the business and be paid accordingly but they will decide on the direction of the business. This is not how i envisioned my life and career but she says she supported me in my dreams and i should support hers. I am so torn. This was not in my plans and will this not make her believe she is my boss, i love my wife but i want to be my own man and a farm life is not something i have passion for. She seems to have decided already and arranging with her work. Her brother is a bully but i do get long with the parents. How do i make peace with this?
