With over 1200 staff across the country, ACFS aim to make sure we are continually improving the workplace environment by keeping health and safety high on the agenda.
Our workers complete a range of roles including truck and forklift driving, unloading containers, and working in the office. It is important that every member of our ACFS family has access to the best training and support including injury prevention and treatment.
How to prevent injuries:
- The 3 most common type of injuries we see across all ACFS roles are back, shoulder and knee injuries.
- The most common risk / causes of these injuries are prolonged repetitive awkward postures such as poor sitting posture, and reduced fitness and health.
- The risk particularly for back pain but also shoulder and knee pain is increased during the colder months and associated with reduced activity such as occurs during COVID lockdown!
- Most injuries are preventable.
- In addition to adhering to all safety guidelines relating to your role, such as 3-point contact, good lifting technique when loading and unloading, and good ergonomics in the office, the best way to prevent back, shoulder and knee pain is to Do the Three:
- Do warm up and regular stretches specific to your role throughout the day (back stretch, chest stretch and squats)
- Regularly assess your health and fitness
- Report all discomfort however minor, to your supervisor and get referred to our specialist Workactive Early Intervention Physios and Exercise Physiologists.
