ACFS Safety Observation Campaign - April

Over the past 6 weeks there has been several incidents and safety observations conducted that have identified the below hazards and non-conformances;

  • Several truck drivers did not maintain 3 points of contact when climbing in/out of the truck cabin resulting in injury.
  • Twin pick forklift tipped forward due to the operator applying the brakes to hard and the containers positioned too high when transporting.
  • Counter balance forklift operators observed fastening the seatbelt behind the seat, in turn bypassing the safety device installed by the manufacture.
  • The visitor sign in and out register for Australian Border Force (ABF) is not being completed correctly resulting in $10,000 fines for each incorrect entry.

 

Safety Observation 4 Key Focus Areas

  • Truck drivers MUST maintain three points of contact when
    climbing in and out of the truck cab.
  • When twin pick container forklifts are traveling loaded they
    MUST not raise the containers higher than 1 m above seat
    height.
  • Forklift operators MUST wear the seatbelt when operating the
    forklift.
  • All visitors to Australian Border Force licenced facilities MUST
    complete all sections of the visitor log Note: this includes; full
    name, residential address, licence number, who they are
    reporting to, vehicle registration number, time in and time out.
