Breaking the Cycle of Period Poverty: Restoring Dignity,
Keeping Girls in School and Empowering the Next Generation

Period poverty affects thousands of girls across South Africa,
preventing many from attending school simply because they
cannot afford menstrual hygiene products. Beyond the
financial burden, it also impacts confidence, mental well-
being, academic performance and future opportunities.

Founded by Lindsay Adams, #AgainstPeriodPoverty is
working to change that reality by providing sanitary
products, menstrual health education, youth leadership
programmes and innovative initiatives such as sanitary pad
vending machines. Since its establishment, the organisation
has supported more than 160 schools across the Western
Cape, ensuring that girls can continue their education with
dignity and confidence.
