Morry Frenkel speaks with Jess Wilson MP, the member for Kew in the Victorian Legislative Assembly, representing the Liberal Party, about the spate of antisemitic incidents that have taken place in Melbourne over the past 20 months. Jess describes her reaction to the antisemitic verbal abuse suffered by primary school-aged students from Mount Scopus Memorial College when visiting the Melbourne Museum. She also talks about the apparent normalisation of antisemitism in our classrooms, with teachers claiming they have a right or mandate to push a strong, pro-Palestinian viewpoint on students as young as those of kindergarten age, without any repercussions. Jess also talks about the recent revelation that Victoria’s “Respectful Relationships” curriculum has been amended so that children as young as 5-years-old can be taught that ‘their body parts may not match their gender’ and that biologically male students who identify as female are entitled to play sport on girls’ teams. This ignores strong evidence-based criticism from psychiatrists on the introduction at an early age of the idea of being transgender.
