Anita Frayman speaks with Dr Joe Reich AM, about his latest book titled “We Should Have Talked: the biography of my father”. Both his parents had suffered the worst of the horrors of the Holocaust. Neither spoke of the deep emotional pain that they suffered and continued to suffer throughout their lives. Some twenty years after his father Jacob died, Joe decided to watch a video recording that Jacob had made with Steven Spielberg’s “Shoah Foundation”. This was the beginning of Joe’s journey of discovery of his father’s story. In his book, Joe skilfully weaves together the details of his father’s testimony, both recorded and written, his findings from extensive historical research and the testimonies of other survivors.
