Morry Frenkel speaks with Gareth Narunsky, editor-in-chief of the Australian Jewish News, about the paper’s submission to the Royal Commission on Antisemitism and Social Cohesion. Gareth describes the format of the submission; a compilation of more than 300 news stories, feature articles, opinion pieces and editorials, covering the period from just before the horrors of October 7th, 2023, until the present. He details three patterns the paper’s pieces fitted into, namely escalation, normalisation and response gap. Gareth also provides his views on the impact of the Royal Commission on the broader Australian community, his confidence in the way the commission is being run and the generally poor standard of journalism in reporting news on Israel, particularly since October, 2023.
