Serious crime on SEPTA is down by more than a third in the first half of the year

  • Thousands are expected to gather once again on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway for the Fourth of July concert and fireworks show. And with a national heightened security alert, Philadelphia police say they’re prepared for anything.
  • Serious crime on SEPTA fell by 37% in the first half of 2024, and the most violent crimes, including aggravated assaults and robberies, fell by nearly half, according to the transit agency.
  • New Jersey has a new domestic worker’s bill of rights, which went into effect July 1. The goal is to expand protections for those who are employed by households, regardless of their immigration status. 
  • Water utility company Aqua is asking to increase rates for Pennsylvania customers starting this month, but a state review is expected to delay any change until next year.
