Matt and Billy recap the Cats' 78-67 win vs Colgate.
Welcome everyone. It is the local twenty dealers KSR postgame show. The Cats win a relatively sluggish effort tonight over Colgates seventy eight sixty seven in Rapparna, and now get ready for the big robbery game next Saturday against Louisville. You can give shout love to hear from you. It's one of these people sometimes say to me, Matt, what are the what are the hardest shows to do? And the there's like two different conds. It's usually you know, if they lose on a Tuesday night on the road at like Old miss a late game, people go to bed. We have a game like that this year at Oklahoma and then December games against bad teams. So this is a good time to get in a five to nine two eight h twenty two eighty seven. So I said on the pregame show that I expected this game to be closer than the thirty point spread that I expect. Did Colgate to slow Kentucky down? And I thought they did a lot of things really well. I mean, Kentucky came out on a seventeen to nothing run to start the game, and I'm sure, like most people, the players sort of thought well, we're good, and then they played like it for about the next twenty minutes. Colegate even got the lead by one point, which is kind of amazing when you start seventeen to nothing. But to Kentucky's credit, in about a minute and a half a game action, they went from down one to up eleven, Jackson Robinson hitting two big threes that I thought were the most important shots of the game than Trent Noah getting a big one. Trent played good minutes off the bench tonight, getting real minutes and taking advantage. And then, of course all game Kobe Brea, who went five for eight from three and really was the most important player in the win for me. I mean this game. We won't remember this game. I don't think it particularly matters your sandwich between really three big games at Clemson, at Gonzaga, then Louisville Saturday. This is an easy game to forget. Honestly, most of the year I forgot this game was even happening. I thought they were taken doing finals this week and there wasn't even a game. So I'm sure the players are like that too. Look, I mean, you just won a massive game against one of the best teams in the country on their court and then you got the biggest rival next week. It's easy to overlook this, but what's odd is that they actually started seventeen to oh, so it wasn't like they overlooked at the beginning. I just think they got complacent. I think you also see how this team really needs Lamont Butler. I mean, I know we won against Gonzaga, but I think for this team to be good, you really need Lamont Butler in part because it frees up Jackson Robinson. He went two for eleven from three now to two. He hit we're big, but he needs to not have to create as much. I don't think that's really his role. Butler can do that. You know, the bench, with the bench really didn't have a great game. I mean, if you look at it right now, Kentucky's bench points total was nine. That's probably the lowest that it will be all season. Nine points off the bench. All the starters were in double figures. But you know, they need LaMonte Butler back, and with Kirk Kresa gone, I think it's going to be important for you know, I don't think Travis Perry looks comfortable yet. I don't really think Colin Chandler looks comfortable yet Trent Noah. Maybe he's the guy right, maybe he's the guy to get some of those minutes. But whatever it is, you know, we've seen a pattern. Kentucky, by the way, has won the second half in every game this year they've played. They are what ten and ozero in second halves, but the first halves. You know, Cats have got to be a little more on it because I think obviously Pope's become a king of halftime adjustments. But you know, when you get an sec play, there're gonna be some games that they'll drop if they don't have better first halves. And hopefully tonight is a little bit of a wake up call. Ultimately, two basketball takeaways I had while watching it. Number One, I wish that well three Actually. Number one, I wish Kobe Bran would shoot more from three. I think I heard when they were doing the replays Jack Gibbons say this during the game. I'm all for a pump fake, but man, you're like the best shooter in the country. Shoot. I wish he took eight threes. Watching the game, I thought he could have taken fourteen, and honestly, in part of the game we needed him to, so I kind of wish he would shoot more. It's almost too unselfish, which gets me to the second point, which is I do think this team overpasses a little bit, especially down low. I love the passes on the perimeter and the way they go they pass to get an open look, but I do think especially with Oway Brea. I don't think it happens so much with Robinson, but Oway and Braya especially like they get in the paint on a drive and then it's I appreciate the fact they're always looking for a lob, but sometimes I think they're giving up a good shot for a high risk, better shot that might not go in. I'd rather have. If Kobe Brea has the lane for a layup, I'd almost rather him take it than try to throw a contested lob to one of the bigs. It's a nitpicky thing, but I do think we overpass sometimes. And then third, I actually thought that Mariy Williams played pretty good tonight. Dunk. It reminds me of when I was a kid. Larry used to always sort of when Jared Prickett played, he would say why doesn't he dunk? Because he would always sort of try to Bunny a layup and he would miss it. I feel that way about Amari and then to some extent, Garrison, but really Amary Moore, like Dunk, you know, his touch is not as good as his power. I hope I wish he would do that a little bit more. But again, Saturday is what matters Kentucky and Louisville. Louisville struggle tonight. They only won by three at home against UTEP. They were down a lot of that game, but they'll give Kentucky a fight, and I think Kentucky's gonna have to play better than they did today to win. Pope says he thinks he'll know if Lamont Butler is gonna play Saturday based on how he feels tomorrow, because I think they gave him like his first really major workout today. I hope he does. I think I feel really good about Kentucky's chances if he plays. But if he doesn't play, I think it could be a game. And you know, Louisville's had actually kind of a brutal schedule, and they you know, he played Kentucky. I think they still have to play North Carolina maybe right after Kentucky and when you consider Duke Old Miss Tennessee, they've had a tough go of it. They need to win one of these if they're gonna make the tournament, and I don't want us to be the one that they win. Eight. I'm nine two eight zero twenty to eighty seven Cats. Not much of a night of college basketball. Outside of Kentucky. The NBA Cup is going Billy. Do you like the NBA Cup or have you followed it at all?
I'm watching it right now, but it's hard to watch. The courts are so bad.
You hate the court.
I cannot tells.
You something different's going on, though right it does.
It does give that effect, but.
Yeah, it is tough, like like I think the Rockets court. The ones that are really red or like bright yellow like Indiana's, those to me are the hardest ones to look at.
Yeah, I'm looking at the red one now. It's I can't believe the players are able.
But I do like that. It does feel like for these games the guys are into it a little bit more. The crowd in Houston here I was watching during the post game is much more into it than a regular NBA crowd would be, So I guess that's good. But yeah, do you remember who won last year?
The Lakers?
Right? Okay, now here's the big question. Do you remember who they beat in the final game? H No, come on, you gotta take against first of all, you know, Western Conference versus Eastern Conference? The Eastern Conference team? Who did they play in the finals?
Was it like Cleveland?
Yeah?
So the shot in the dark?
Who is it? Indiana? They beat Indiana in the final?
Oh yeah, I was I remember that now, Halibert.
Yeah.
So now they've got what Milwaukee, Atlanta and Oklahoma City, So those will be good games if they end up playing them. I'm nine to zero, twenty to eighty seven will take your cross. What do you think about the team? The game? They they released the UK football schedule for next year. We'll spend a lot of time on that tomorrow on the show. But for my belief, that's it's about the hardest first seven games I remember Kentucky ever having in football. Uh. That's got to make it puts Mark stoops and even more, I guess what more of a hot seat next year? Having to start with starts with Old Miss Georgia, Old Miss Georgia, South Carolina, Texas Tennessee. Those are the first five SEC games. That is going to be a difficult schedule. Eight five nine two Aho twenty two eighty seven. We will take a break, take your calls. Cats win by eleven. This is the Local Toy Dealers KSR postgame show, Wartermack. It is a Local Toy Dealers KSR post game show. Eight five, nine to two eight h twenty two eighty seven. Text machine is seven seven to two seven seven four five two five four one person Rightes matt Our family has decided to drop football season six next year and do baseball instead. I think you're gonna still want to go to the football. I mean, that's a great home schedule next year, Billy, isn't it. You get Texas, Old Tennessee, and Florida all at home. I mean that's all lost sure when come on now? Well, I mean it's the schedule you want if you want to make a run, right, because you get the good teams at home. But if you're a team that's struggling, it's the worst schedule you can get because you get the weaker teams on the road. So, like, it all depends on how you look at it. There have been years that I would love for Kentucky to have had a schedule like they have next year, but I'm not sure this year is the one one person rights, Matt. If we get Lamont Butler back, I think we're fine. But you can tell how much we miss them exactly right. He is a huge loss, especially an initiating half court offense and in guarding the other team's point guard. I you know, I honestly think we have we have two good defenders in my opinion, Butler and o Way. And when when you don't have Butler, you put Away on the on their number one guy, but then Jackson Robinson's having to guard their number two, and then you end up with like Brea, who's not a very good defender. You know, it's you struggle against teams that can move on the without Butler. It will be very good to have you back, all right, who's up first?
Chuck?
Chuck, go ahead, Chuck, get it, Matt? What's going on?
I'm doing well?
I I what's the game today? A lifelong fan, I'm nineteen years old. I'm a freshman at Alabama, and I get a lot of hate every day. I get a lot of hate for cheering for Kentucky every day.
Tell you that. So you're a freshman at Alabama. Are you already out of school?
Yees, sir?
All right, so you're out of school, you're freshman Alabama. You cheer for Kentucky. You're not like one of these Kentucky basketball Alabama football fans, right, that's like too easy of a live.
Oh.
I know.
Well, I'm from Kentucky. My my family's from Lowell County. My grandma from Harlan, just like Trenton Noah. And I believe Blue until I die, and I get I mean, I get a lot of hate for it. I went to the game today and you know, I know, you talk a lot on the show about the difference between the football fans and the basketball fans, and I got yelled out, nurt start. Sorry, I got yelled at by two different groups of people today for standing up at the game and sharing on the team.
All right, now, what wait a minute, what was your first name again?
It's Chuck?
Okay, so Chuck. I got this text message from a friend of mine's son. By the way, Billy, my friends now have sons that are in college. That's crazy to me. Uh, his name's Lawson and he's actually in college like you are. I think he goes to Miami. And he wrote me and said, oh, he was with you. Okay, well that makes it okay, Well that makes it have a lot more sense. So you went with loss and okay, so you all had this together. He wrote and said, my friend and I were at the game. I guess that's you. What a small world billy, right? And that is that's right? Uh, he said, my friend and I were at the game. We ended up getting in an argument with some people for stay during the game. I don't understand why people were telling us to sit down and stop cheering, even though it's a one possession game. So you're big on you should be able to stand and cheer, and I'm with you. I'm all for the standing up craft. I the only thing I don't like about Kentucky basketball fans is the lower level at Reparena telling people to sit down. This is a basketball game, it's not an opera. I'm on your side, Chuck, and I'm on lost in side.
I agree it was. They were so rude about it too, and you can tell that they've probably done this before. I've never I've never experienced something like this at at a scoring event in my life.
Well tell them to shut up. Well, be nice, I mean, don't yell at them, but say you're going to stand down time.
And the second time, when they were really rude about it, I told them, I said, if you want to watch the game without people in front of you, you can watch it on TV or get better tickets.
All right, Well, thank you, Chuck. I appreciate the call. Billy, where are you on that? Should you be able to stand? Yes?
Absolutely, this is a sporting event.
Is the only thing I would say is be be courteous. So like, if you have somebody behind you who maybe for whatever reason, has a health issue or can't stand, I do can try to consider that. But in general, especially in moments in the game where it's exciting, you should I am for standing, and I think the culture that's developed at RUP over the years where you only stand occasionally and if people stand, you're mad. I don't like it now when I go to games and people stand in front. But I was at the Kentucky like Old Miss football game and people stood the entire game. It's just what they did. And I'm not saying we have to stand the entire game. But you can't get mad at nineteen year old kids who are excited and are standing up. So what a coincidence that those that do? You not think that's weird that the guy, the kid who wrote me and that went to the game with that kid that called You don't think that's I'd.
Say a lot of people that exit rupp Arena after a game. Listen to the postgame matter.
I know, but but there's twenty thousand people in there. You don't think it's random that the two people went together.
No, No, yeah, you're right. It's small world out there.
You're not You don't think that's nearly as cool as I do? All right? Who's they don't even go to the same school. I think one of them goes anyway?
All right, Tanner, go ahead, Hey Matt, this is Tanner Diggers from from Sandy Hook, Kentucky, Sandy Hook. Before you getting my question here?
That's that is that that's Rocky Adkins Territory, right, that is everything in that town is named after Rocky Adkins. Right, go ahead, you got it out there?
Oh yeah, before getting my question here? Oh yeah, Keith too, Oh yeah, before you getting my question here. I don't want to. I guess kind of hit on a little a couple other things. So obviously with the point guard situation as we all know right now, as you mentioned, with Butler being out with his injury and kind of into just a shape that the point ward situation is right now, and then that's also allowed Robertson to kind of playoff position from what I've you know, from what I've seen, but he did have a good game against Gonzaga. I believe you know, in my opinion here, I think we're leaning on people maybe from the bench, particularly Travis Perry hast seen to not you kind of see he's just kind of out of sword. He's more of a catch and shoot type of players. I'm better you're coming off screens.
Yeah, but they're not going to be running screens for Travis Perry. I mean, like he's he's not. I mean, they're they're they're not gonna be running offense for Travis Perry or those guys. They have to, I mean, they have to do what they do can do to contribute, and it may mean that they can't. Look, I don't if this were a game against a team that really had a shot to beat us, the minutes would have been distributed very differently. They'd have probably played those I mean, that's what we did against Gonzaga. We played the five starters most of the second half in overtime. I mean, I so those guys got were getting a chance with Travis and Chandler and Noah and even Almanor and those guys, they were getting more run. But if this were against you know, Alabama, in this game, you've just seen five guys out there most of the time.
Yeah, Oh, absolutely, absolutely, I'm right. So now, okay, getting in my question here now though, So I'm kind of tweeted at you here probably the past couple of weeks, if you or not. But it's in regards to Calm Porter at Liberty University. He's a point guard there. He's a junior this year. He's been there, he started all three years. He actually played at Ashland Blazer hostage.
Yeah, I remember that.
Yeah, Okay, So what I've been honestly think, you know, you know, you got Trent, no you got Noah and Perry, two Kentucky kids. Why not maybe next season going going in the next one?
Well might it depends on It depends on who they need I mean, it depends on what their rosters are. You know, I appreciate the You know, I don't you think you can get another year out of a way. So I think you got a first determined will you get another year out of him? You got Garrison. You gotta see if all three of those guys that you just mentioned end up coming back, and then you've got four. You got three and we'll probably end up being four freshmen. So I mean, let's assume all of those people come. Now you have nine guys, so you're gonna go get three transfers. But like you gotta be very careful who you get. You can't just get a kid cause he's from Kentucky. You gotta get a kid that you think is gonna contribute. And maybe he would. I don't know, but I think they would have to look at the roster. You know. My guess is next year in the portal, they'll go get a point guard to pair with with Jasper Johnson. But whether it's him or somebody else, I think will depend on how Pope sees sees his system being run. Who's next?
Elliott, Elliott, go ahead.
Elliott, Hey, Matt, how's it going Doing good?
Good.
Hey, I liked what I've seen from Trent Noah to not just his defense and hit that three, which seemed to a lot the crowd up. Do you think that he could become more like a Derek Willis player.
Well, I think before he's done he's gonna be really good. I don't think this year he's gonna there. I mean he's gonna play a lot. I just don't. I mean, I you know he played tonight. I think he'll get another chance to play some minutes against Brown h and I think those are his chance. I mean, he certainly helped his cause tonight, But I mean, when Butler's back, you're gonna have four or five guys ahead of him, and I think they've shown that this team does better when they go small rather than excuse me when if he's gonna play, it's with Carr at the five and him playing a small four. But I just don't think he'll I don't think he'll play a lot. But before he's done at Kentucky, yes, I do think he can have like a Derek Willis type role. But do I think it'll happen this year? No, I don't.
Absolutely.
Thank you appreciate it I mean, I you know, and that's not a criticism. Look, I mean you look at Chandler, Noah and Perry, all those guys I think have a chance to be contributors, significant contributors at this school before they're done. I think Chandler has a chance to be a star. But you know, when I watched them, this is what I was thinking looking at Perry and Noah and Chandler Today, Billy, if you look at the rest of our players and you look at them, you see the difference in four years of college weight training.
Yeah, No, I'm serious, no doubt.
Yeah, just go look at those, dude, Because those other guys are twenty two to twenty three years old and Noah and Perry are like eighteen and nineteen. That's a big difference. And sometimes we would see that at Kentucky. We'd play some of these guys when Cow's here, and we'd have these little freshmen and we'd be playing against grown men. We're the grown men this year, and this, by the way, is the last year where you're gonna have fifth year guys a lot of them playing, So I don't think the gap will be as large in the years to come. Who's next, Robbie, Robbie, go ahead, Robbie.
Hey, first time, long time, Matt.
Who are what's up?
Well, it's Williams. I'll be honest with you. As I watched the game to night, I think he's a little lazy. He doesn't block out. I saw a lot of times where you got other guys jumping on the on the ball and really going after it.
I wouldn't say lazy, but I will say I wouldn't say lazy, but I do know what you're talking about. I noticed this even in the Gonzaga game as well, Like if there's a loose ball, he does something that I see coaches complain about a lot. He bends down to get it. Where's the other guy? Like falls on the floor and gets it, you know what I mean? And usually the guy who does that is gonna have a better chance. I wouldn't say he's he's lazy. I don't think that's fair, but I would say that, you know, maybe sometimes he's at eighty five ninety percent effort. I do think in big plays he plays great defense, but he can't get beaten sometimes with effort.
Well, I think he gets caught ball watching like he's he's standing there watching the ball go up, but he doesn't go after it. You know what I'm saying. I mean, giving that one hundred percent effort to go for the ball makes sense.
No, I agree, I agree, and and like I said, I appreciate the call. Sometimes I wish he went up, would go up and dunk and not just right to finesse it around the rim. He is, however, when he's when he's locked in, he's a good shot blocker, he's he's pretty good at pick a roll defense. He got better, especially in that game the other night. He was bad. At the first half. They were getting they were torching them, but then in the second half he started, uh, he started playing it better. I still think all these guys, you know, they did a pretty good job this year until tonight. And when you play these teams that shoot threes, like get out on them, make them beat you off the dribble. We didn't do a great job of that tonight, and we have most of the year. They lay way too far off these guys, And I don't understand that because these dudes are not going to beat you at the rim. But who's next, Jaden? What's up? Jaden?
And I don't know how much he's been following NDA this year, but I've been looking at like and they're only for it And do they like any concerns about the career.
No, don't. I mean, it's it is. I've been surprised, well, I've been surprised with both of them, Sheppard dealing him the minutes they've gotten, so they're two different situations. I think Reid's problem is he's on a team with five guards that are all pretty good, and because of that, he just can't get minutes. I don't want anyone to get hurt, but I think if someone were to get hurt, you'd start to see more minutes. But that the Rockets have been healthy all year. I also think if I were I'd like to see him playing instead of van Fleets. But but van Fleet's getting the minutes, and look, the Rockets are good, so that's why he's not playing. He's just he's got the burden of being on a good team. I think with Dillingham, his defense kills him, like I mean, when they put him in, he gets torched. And that was his problem here too. He couldn't really guard anybody. He'll be fine, but he might not play a lot this year because because he's just defensively, he's a liability.
Yeah for sure.
So yeah, I appreciate the call, but I on read especially he's not played as much as I thought he would. But the problem is he's on a team that's good and has five guards, a couple of whom are having like the best years of their career. So he just he got some bad luck with with where he ended up. All Right, we'll take a break a f I'm nine to eight zero twenty two eighty seven Cats within an eleven point win against the Colgate.
What is Colgate's nickname Raiders?
The Raiders? I don't know that I ever knew that Actually is Colgate named after the same Colgate that does the toothpaste.
Don't know, but I'm going to assume.
So once you look that up during the break, so that you can give us the history of this fine university that we played for.
Okay today, all right.
We'll take a break and be right back. This is the Local Toy Dealers KSR postgame Show. Welcome back. It is the Local Toy Dealers KSR Post game Show. All right, So I've been having people Billy for the last week or so writing me about one of our commercial and I had not heard it until right then. Do you do you? Can you play the commercials? Yeah? Do you want to?
So?
This is the commercial. For those of you that you know or maybe listening on podcasts, you don't get all in commercials, this is the commercial for Red State Barbecue, and I want you to just hear. I mean, you can hear me talking, But for those of you listen at home, I want you to listen into the background because I believe that Ryan Lemon may have made an appearance in one of my commercials. Let me see, Red State Barbecue products are now everywhere. Let me give you the latest select Kroger locations across Kentucky, southern Ohio, and southern Indiana. Same thing at Liquor Barn in Lexington, Danville, and Eatown. They're in Jungle Gym in Fairfields and Cincinnati. Do you hear that?
Is?
Did he just decide to clear his throat in the middle of my commercial?
I had not heard that until a minute.
So for people who don't know, we tape these commercials a lot of them after the show, and often I'll do mine and then if Ryan has one, he'll do his and he will keep the headset on. And did he just decide to croak like a frog in the middle of my commercial?
I mean he was sitting right next to you. He had to know you were doing.
Did he not think that I was like? I mean, play that one more time. Listen, listen to his his flim Red State Barbecue products are now everywhere. Let me give you the latest select Kroger locations across Kentucky, southern Ohio, and southern Indiana. Same thing at Liquor Barn and Lexington, Danville and heat Town. They're in jungle gym in Fairfields and listen. He sounds like marg Simpson's sisters there. Well, I'm trying to do MyD He needs to apologize to Red State Barbecue for that. What a good about gross?
He goes up there with the local taco spot.
I think, nice job, Brian, Did you look up I did?
Let me give you a little history lesson. Colgate has actually had four different names throughout its time as a college. In eighteen nineteen, it was founded as the Baptist Education Society of the State of New York.
And then it sounds like a college. It sounds like a club.
In eighteen twenty three, it was renamed to the Hamilton Theological and Literary Institution, Okay, and then it was changed to Madison College, but the name was later changed to Colgate University due to a significant donation by James Colgate, the son of William Colgate, the founder of the company that made Colgate two.
See. I can't imagine doing that, right, Like, I can't imagine. Just think about the ego. You have to have to give an amount of money and say, it's one thing if you like endow the college, right, so if it was the blank school of whatever kind of thing. But if you went to a college and then you go, I'm gonna give you money, but you have to change the name of the college to me, can you imagine doing that, going to Transylvania and saying, all right, Transylvania, I'm gonna give you five hundred million dollars, but it's now gonna be called Matt Jones cop Like, can you imagine like that? I just feel like the ego has to be so huge to do that.
Yeah, the ego's strong.
So you think they come in with that stipulation that you get the money if you change the name.
I I can tell you for a fact that at a number at least two schools I know of in doubt, like colleges or whatever, were named only if the name got on Wow. Now sometimes they will force the name on it when the person doesn't want it, so I know UK for instance. That's one of the things I really like about about Joe and Kelly Craft is that actually they've given donation and things and have specifically said, don't put our names on it. And UK, I think on the Craft Center specifically like told him we're doing it whether you want us to or not. But there are definitely people who do that. But the whole college is another.
Level, right, yeah, no doubt.
Yeah, Transylvania, you're now Matt Jones here five mil Yeah, I don't he won't to worry. That's not gonna happen. So but all right, who's up next?
Bones?
Bones? How are you? Bones?
I'm good man. I got a couple of things.
Man.
How good is it to get to Kentucky? Went on my birthday?
Man?
Forty one today?
That's what I was hoping for. Bones, Happy birthday, you're forty one years old.
Yes, sir, thank you? And number two is there any way we could get Seth Greenberg to stop doing anything to do with Kentucky. He is so and Cols fackey. Way he called the Arkansas game about how good they were when it was really Michigan failing. I can't stand it. And then tonight it was all come and it wasn't Kentucky. And then number three, How great is it for us to get this experience? Now it sucks not having Robinson and Kerr, but to be able to win in several different ways when most people thought it was only gonna be the three that would carry us. We're getting better and better.
Come March.
I'd be scared to play us again.
Yeah, well, I appreciate call. Yeah on set I mean, I've always got along with set he he's become, you know, not the nicest to me because of cow. But I will say it is clear when you listen to him doing Kentucky stuff, like, it is clear he wants to kind of make sure, Hey, Kentucky fans col still great, right, like he it's very important to him to do that. I didn't. I don't think it's so much like building up to I think he likes smart Pope, but you know, I think he sent a tweet today, didn't he, Billy. It was like you Kentucky fans need to stop worrying about or whatever. You know. Let me tell you it never works. Ever, is when announcers who are not part of Big Blue Nation tell us what to do.
Billy today, I ever think that's gonna work. It's never worked.
I've been doing this for twenty years. I've watched everyone from Pat Forty to Jeff Goodman, uh, you know, to Jay Williams, to Michael Wilbond to Seth Greenberg. We're not gonna listen to any of you all, So I don't know why they feel the need to do that like our fans. Our fans don't even they barely listen to me. Billy, There're cerly not gonna listen to Seth Greenberg tell him how to feel.
I heard Tom Hart was on fire tonight.
Tom Hart was great tonight. Right mentioned the sage. You know, he's mentioned inconsistencies and taking it to the next level. That was an old school Tom's not done one of those in a while. He's I think he knew we were playing Coldgate. He brought it tonight. Uh. And if you're listening Tom salute, and you were in town. You didn't even call us. Come on, what's next, Thomas, Thomas, go ahead.
Thomas, Hey, Kogate brought it tonight. But how about this gonna be our crappiest game of the year. We're at a by seventeen. We will win about eleven. I'm just telling you that's gonna be our crappiest game of the year.
That'll be our worst game. Well I hope it's our worst game, sir. It's our worst game so far. Yeah, and we still want And I actually thought besides the ones telling Losson and Chuck to sit down, I actually thought the crowd got into it at the right moment too.
Since it props out there's a Union County native Larry Johnson played seventy.
Three seventy four and a hard time right now healthwise.
They lost to us LA, but need some prayers. But Larry Johnson was an incredible guard for the UK back in the day seventy six seventy seven, and need some prayers.
So all right, I appreciate you saying that, and prayers start to to Larry. Yes, a former Kentucky player, prayers to that the family, Thank you very much. Hey, if I'm nine to two eight zero twenty eighty seven. Also, I'm not sure. I'm not sure the specifics, but if you heard Tom at one point during the game, also gave a shout out to uh Oscar Combe saying to feel better. Yeah, I don't know what the what the details are on that, but uh, you know, Oscar is a legend. I wouldn't have a career if it wasn't for Oscar, So prayers to him as well. I think hopefully he's doing he's doing okay.
It was up next Hunter's next, Hunter.
Go ahead, Hunter, Hey Man, Hey Billy, Hey, you guys doing doing good? Yeah, you stole one of my points. I was gonna mention the Red State commercial because I heard it going into the postgame and I was so confused.
I was like, what is that?
I mean, you had yes, you had to have guessed it was right right, Like, I mean, of all the pa it was fairly so when you hear a sound like that, it probably is going to trace back to Ryde.
Yeah, it's it's another one of those inconsistent behaviors.
It's exactly right.
Yeah, I just got a couple of points. I just wanted to say, I didn't really get the chance to. I was actually at the Salt Lake romo. I'm the one that you've mentioned about the girlfriend. Just want to say thank you guys to come in.
To Salt Lake.
It's awesome seeing you guys in person.
Yes, well, thank you, and thank you for bringing your girlfriend, taking your Prestonsburg charm to the Utah ladies.
I appreciate it.
And then the other two things that I noticed, especially listening to this game I was listening to on the radio, I kept thinking back of my head, I hate talking about cal especially like you know, he can go do his own thing. But I kept thinking in my head, this would have been his Evansville UNC will meets him the yearly lost, like this would have been one of them.
In my opinion, it could have been.
I mean, I you know, I actually think, you know, don't throw any tomatoes at me, but I actually think this is the kind of game that he usually did well against, because this would have been a game where I do think like athleticism could have overwhelmed this team and we are really good. What I think is interesting about Mark Pope teams, at least this team, We're gonna have some great athletes next year, but this team, because we don't have elite athletes. I think we actually are so different in these games than we used to be. Like we're gonna give teams problems that they have more talent than us, but they are also gonna be games like this one, where like we're better, but we can't just simply overpower them with athleticism because we just don't have those guys. And then if you're cold, you get a situation like we had tonight. If we shot well, I think we win this game by twenty five, but we didn't. And you know, the kind of teams that gave Cal hard time are teams that ran very like like complicated systematic offense, and uh, and I just don't think Colgate would have been good enough to do that. So I actually disagree with you. I don't think he would have lost this game, but I also don't think he would have won the Kenzaga game.
So yeah, that's a fair point. And then the last thing I'll leave with and I'll hang up. I called back in the Bucknell postgame, and I told you about the BYU doing that cruise for Nil. I wanted to hear who you would want on that cruise and why I'll hang up and listen.
Thank you guys.
Yeah, if you were to do a UK cruise for an Iowa, I mean you could get you know, I mean it depends how you could get. The problem is we have like such huge stars that are part of UK. Like, I mean, are you gonna be able to get John Wall to get on a boat, Billy, I don't know if he's going to do that, right, get on a cruise.
It's a commitment, it's like a week.
There's a lot of people that would do it. I mean you could get Mark. I'm sure Jack would, and and and Kyle Mason do it. Yeah. I don't think you're going to be a big draw for the Anile cruise. I mean I think you're one of the people, like on a concert flyer names that are smaller at the bottom.
I'm the one of the one of those names.
Yeah, they'll be they'll have you. I don't have like you know, I don't want to offend people by putting the money, but I was yeah, I mean yeah, like John Wong, I think we'd go on that on there, right, I'm kidding you. John was in Seattle, so I'm just gonna give me more time. Who's next, Andrew, Andrew, go ahead, Andrew.
Hey, Matt, I just want to tk about Brian Garrison. I really like Brendan Garrison, but I don't think it's their best interest offensively to play through him in the post, for him to dribble ten times and throw up a hook shot and back iron off the rim. I was glad to see Trenton do well. Uh Seth Greenberg and Jay Williams and go kick rocks. Shout John Dante, love that guy. God bless America. Thank you, Matt got a.
Yeah, thank you, Uh yeah, you know how you know my view, the less Garrison and Williams dribble the better for me. I mean, the you know, the the little hooks are okay, but I don't know. Those guys to me are like they need to be one dribble, go to the back. The thing about is frustrating me about Garrisons. He fades away on every shot like you're seven foot tall man, You're an athlete. He's the best athlete on the team. Go into the go into the defender, draw foul, use your strength. He's always fading away and he ends up short arming a lot he'll get he'll get better at that though. I think he's gonna be a great player next year. I really do. I think, Uh, I think he's got a chance to be really really good. Uh next year? Who's next?
Oh?
Sorry, we'll take a break if I'm nine to eighth. Twenty two eighty seven. The Warriors lead the Rocket seventy eight seventy seven, seven and a half minutes to go. The Immirates Cup is exciting, will be right back. It's a Local Toy Dealers KSR post game job. Welcome back. It is the Local Toy Dealers KSR postgame show. A lot of good questions coming in on uh on the text machine. Uh. One person writes, Dick Dave. This guy says Dick Baker. I think he means Dave Baker, don't you think? Yeah, probably combined Dick Gabriel and Dave Baker. Said. Oscar fell around Thanksgiving and had shoulder surgery. So I didn't know that, but uh yeah, prayers to prayers to Oscar. Hopefully he will he will recover well and we can see him in a game again soon. One person rights, Matt, I would go on a cruise to see Billy as a matter of fact, I think Billy would be a huge draw on a cruise.
That's very nice, get me on the dance floor.
Let get to this question one person rights, Matt, Of all the KSR guys, who do you think would get the most mad is on a dating app? Well, I mean all all the guys. They all have women now, right, like all of you do? Is that rightan world coming you? Shannon, Ryan, Drew and Mario.
That's right, Like you guys are all you're the hopeless romantic.
Yeah.
I don't know the answer to that. I would say, uh uh. Ryan would certainly have a profile that scared Everyboddy off.
Underwear or something.
He'd be he'd do something stupid and then I'm too picky, So I don't know. Maybe uh maybe Mario he's of that age, right, So all right, who's up next? Casey, Casey, go ahead, Casey.
Hey man, how's it going? Uh?
Doing good?
So I'm gonna bring a chat down a little bit, but uh, I feel like I need to do this. Uh tonight, UK lost a saint. Uh, somebody's pretty.
Close to me.
His name was Doug Hazelwood. He passed away today and he would always post.
His old Doug.
And he loved UK more than I love my next breath. And uh, I'm not trying to bring it down down.
Where Where was he from? Where's Doug from?
He was from Bria, Kentucky, Bria, Kentucky.
When you say he would post, what would he what would he post on?
Well, I guess I misspoke when I said he post. He was an old school guy if you could imagine.
Joe B.
Hall.
Yeah, that's who.
That's who he would put you in mind of. But he loved ks R and he would he would always go by old Doug Old.
Okay, all right, I got you. So how old was he.
I'm honestly not sure how old he was?
But what did you did? He just live in your town? How do you know? How did you know him?
No?
He was.
We we were great friends. He was. He was your grandfather. Jimmy and my daughter who you have a lot of contact with. My daughter is the one who trades T shirts.
Was Ryan.
Uh My, my foster son is the one that goes to Western Kentucky.
So if that makes the connection, yeah, yeah, I know you're talking about.
Yeah. So he loves of UK.
But unfortunately he passed today and the fact that he passed on to day that UK was playing a game is so funny and ironic.
Well, I know he's watching, so go ahead, go ahead, you there, I'm here.
Okay. Well, let me just say, first of all, that's very nice of you to honor h honor your friend. That's very appropriate, and it sounds like he was a great guy. And I'll be praying for you and he and he and his family. But listen, I always love stories like that because to me, the names of the players, the names of the coaches, the names of the people that are on TV and on the radio, they change, but the common thread, uh is the fan base. And I appreciate you honoring Doug here tonight. God bless you man.
Yeah, thank you very much, Thank you.
Eighty seven. Let's do four more. Billy will go home.
Who's Ben is next?
Ben? Go ahead? Ben?
Yeah, I'm not really sure how to follow that color.
That's okay. Doug would just want you to talk about the game. Go ahead.
Well, me and my girlfriend were there and the crowd was electric. That's one of the best best atmospheres I've been at for a non conference game. Anyway, that was just that was.
Yeah, Pope said that Pope actually gave the crowd a lot of credit for UH for for the for the comeback.
Yeah, and Mark Pope has done an amazing job with the UH the university's basketball team, especially I mean the staying back inside an autographs and things like that. I could tell just made everybody's night. And I just wanted to get on give him especially some praise and also both of y'all for making making a lot of effort to make the university better. I appreciate it.
Well, thank you, And you're exactly right about Mark Marx brought the UH Mars brought the pride back, and he's given the program in some ways back to the people. And I think that's why everybody's so appreciative. Appreciate. I appreciate the call. What what Billy is wrong with Draymond Green? Did you see that?
Yeah?
I did. I mean that's they got to throw That's like I don't I don't know what they was, flagrant one two whatever, But like he's tackled a guy. Come, you can't do that.
I thought we addressed this with him, Like.
Dray he does something like every day. Plus his beard is gray now, like he's he's alone. Now. I didn't realize that. I will say, I'm gonna be talking a lot of trash about Louis over the next few days. But I got to give Pat Kelsey, their coach some credit. Did you hear what he said? Tonight? He was asked by a reporter if it was emotionally draining having to play duke in Kentucky in the same week while also playing a physical UTEP team, and he said, quote, no, I live a great life. I mean, we get a bunch of free sneakers, I wear sweatsuits to work, my kids are healthy, and my wife is hot. Wow. What an answer. That's a good answer. Good perspective on life too. Like you got a good job, you know?
So?
Uh? I like that. I wish I wish I could dislike Pat Kelsey Moore. He seems like he's not a bad not a bad dude. Did they just they called that a common foul? That's not true, that's not what they didn't just call that a common foul?
Didn't they didn't see him?
How could they call that a common foul? Come on? Wow? All right, Well who's next?
Butler is next?
Butler? Go ahead?
Hey, Fellers.
Uh, Billy.
Sorry if you heard what was going on in my phone in the background, my phone's more on phone. I was listening to you all while I was calling, and for whatever reason, it didn't stop that while I was calling in. So if you heard that, I apologize, brother Matt. Second of all, yeah, thank you. Second of all, man, I apologized you. I didn't realize the other night when I called that I was the last caller for the Kenzaka postgame show. Otherwise, I I remember now that you said, Butler, last call, bring it.
And about it. You're fine. You don't need to apologize. You're good. Okay.
So here's what I got.
Thank you.
By the way, So I work.
I just got home from work. I worked two jobs. Like I went at seven at one job, walk out three thirty three forty ish, go to the other job, clocking at.
Four, work till well.
I just got home by twenty five minutes ago. I have not watched the game yet.
Okay, I watched the game.
Ah, watch the first I mean I already know wat Yeah, I watched the first, watch the first few minutes, first eight minutes, then skip ahead and watch the second half. That's what I do. You don't need to watch the end of the first if you if you've had a long day, watch the first seven or eight minutes because it did look good. And then watch when they make that little run in the second half. And I think you got it because a lot of the game was either them playing well and that's playing bad or boring. So uh yeah, that's what I would do if I were you.
Okay, Well, prayers sending out to that guy and his family. My mother in law just passed away Thanksgiving week.
So I know how that feels.
But you know what, all that aside, cats are on the right.
Let's go cats, Let's go in.
That's right, all right? Two more? Who's next? Vic? Vic?
Go ahead, Hey, Matt, I call awful to apologize to you.
Matt.
I know enough.
You know I do the radio stations, bro. We did not do the tailgate there because we said it was a Kass Stark curse. You had won a game there and we still got beat so wildn' ka. As far as fault it was, it was bad football, all right.
Well, next time we can will break it. Next year we'll do it. We'll light a candle.
I will I do have one question. I mean, it was a nice win by Kentucky kind of what you expected. But this is kind of a football question. Is this as bad as schedule for Mark? Soops coming off of four and eight year where you could play well and start the year two and five and really kind of lose the entire families?
Uh? Yeah, I mean it's it's about as bad as schedule for Mark, and we'll I'll talk more about that tomorrow. I appreciate the call. I mean Mark may have known, but if he watched that reveal, I'm not sure they could have gotten a worse order of games. You know, it gives him an opportunity if he can get a good win. That second game of the year against Old Miss is big, and then you got Texas at home and there are chances to get a win that kind of wins the fan base back. But it is it would be very easy to go two and five to start the year and still make a bowl game. I mean, that's plausible. You could go two and five and still finish six and six. By it. If you'd start two and five, you know how the fan base will be. So it is a The schedule is not not what they would have wonted, all right, one more. Here's next, Joe, Joe, go ahead, Joe.
Hey man, A couple of things right quick before you get out of here. The one thing that I see that we need to improve on is staying on our line. And what I mean by that is when we're dribbling the ball, we are getting physical to off of our off of our destination, and we cannot continue to pass that we're trying to get to the basket or make your cut. So the blueprint looks to be the physical, physical up on us and press us out on the three point line. Away from that, and then when we try to drive other than Lamont Butler, we don't have a lot of guys that can get to the rim, as you say, but we're getting physically pushed off of our destination, so tail some back door cuts shouldn't.
Well, that's what the That's what they did against Gonzaga in the second half. I mean, I uh, at halftime. I will tell you, at halftime in the Gonzaga game, I was a little just kind of worried, not so much about the game I thought we were gonna lose at that point, but more just about the season because I think everything you just said, I felt like, oh no, Gonzagas showed how to beat us, and then they adjusted and the back door cuts worked. Uh, they started posting car up, Robinson kind of hit another level and it looked good. But no, that is gonna be the blueprint we are gonna get. We're gonna get roughed up all year. There's only gonna be a handful of teams Alabama, you know, maybe just Alabama. There are gonna be very few teams that don't play us like that. And so Tennessee, will Auburn, will Arkansas, will A and m old Miss Like they're all gonna do that, and we're gonna have to rise to the occasion we did in the second half against Gonzaga. Uh, and now we're gonna have to continue because that is that. We are gonna see that all year long.
Yeah.
And the other thing is too, I appreciate the fact that everybody wants to see Travis Perry and Trent Noah come in, but just their physical appearance on the court, you can tell they're five years younger than our team the way that they look like high school kids.
Which is why, which is why I want everybody to like just take a deep breath down. Like if you if you get a game like tonight where one of them gets in and is able to contribute, cheer him on. But it's it's it's really is. I think I think I, for whatever reason, noticed it tonight more than any other game. You just all you gotta do is go look at the build of even our guys like Robinson. Robinson just looks older, even though he's not necessarily big, he just looks like they are. Look at Andrew Carr and then look at Trent Noah and that's five years difference of age, and I think that makes a massive difference.
Yeah, hey, you guys did a great job last week on your trip. Always enjoy you. I'm down here in Alabama. I was at the Old Miss Win. I called you during football season, and I think you got to do an awesome jobs. Well, thanks, Matt, appreciate.
You, appreciate it. Thank you. Yeah, we're gonna see that all year, and we got to get used to it. I think that's why I think Tennessee will be the hardest matchup for US all year. And by the way, that's how Louisville's gonna play us too. Saturday, Louisville has a hard time scoring, but they're pretty physical defensively, so I think you're gonna see a very similar game style Saturday from Pat Kelsey's group. Thank you all very much, appreciate you staying up with us. I will see you in ten hours in the morning. This has been the local Toity Dealers KSR postgame show
