While California continues to champion reproductive rights … the state is coming up against legal efforts over access to medication abortion. Just last Friday, a federal judge in Texas ruled to suspend FDA approval of an abortion pill … and without an appeal from the federal government, that could jeopardize access nationwide. In a statement, Governor Gavin Newsom called the decision “political” and he stressed California’s commitment to keeping abortion legal and accessible. This isn’t Newsom’s first hard-line stance on the issue. Last month, he said he wanted to STOP doing business with Walgreens … after the company said it would not distribute an abortion pill in 21 states facing legal action.
