TSA Chief Warning, Elon Musk's Offer & Fresno PD Military Equipment

View descriptionShare

The TSA is grappling with a serious staffing crisis tied to the ongoing DHS funding lapse—more than 460 officers have quit since February, and nearly 10% are calling out, resulting in unprecedented security delays. TSA officials warn that unless funding is restored, smaller airports could temporarily close and the agency may struggle to manage the influx of travelers expected during the 2026 World Cup.

The White House has rejected an offer from billionaire Elon Musk to pay TSA workers during a partial government shutdown that has disrupted airport travelers across the country. The suggestion was taken seriously by Trump administration officials, but there could be legal challenges for Musk to cover the pay, even indirectly, because of Musk's various government contracts.

Fresno police revealed they used military‑style equipment nearly 300 times last year — mostly drones — during their first public meeting under a state transparency law. While residents questioned the need for “war‑zone” tools, police leaders said the gear is rarely used and essential for high‑risk situations.
