Assembly Bill 2753, introduced by Assemblywoman Esmeralda Soria in February, would have prohibited anyone who is or has been required to register as a sex offender from running for local elective office.

A Floating Hamster Wheel

A couple wearing black climbed to the top of the Empire State Building's transmitter, and by the time they climbed back down, they were engaged, and then arrested. Angela Nikolau, 33, and Ivan Kuznetsov, 32, were hit with numerous charges following their stunt, including burglary, reckless endangerment, criminal mischief, violation of local laws, possession of burglar's tools, criminal tampering, criminal trespass and disorderly conduct. 

Reza Baluchi tried to "run" across the Atlantic Ocean inside a giant floating hamster wheel bound for London. The Coast Guard deemed the voyage dangerously unsafe, intervened during a days-long standoff, and eventually removed him from the vessel. The incident resulted in federal charges and became one of the more unusual Coast Guard rescues in recent memory.

Middle School Recalls Yearbooks 

Supervisors Advance Concealed Weapons Access

A New Jersey middle school has recalled its yearbooks after an infant photograph of Adolf Hitler was discovered in a section meant to feature baby pictures of graduating students. 

Fresno County supervisors have taken the first step toward expanding concealed-weapons privileges for certain county officials and employees. Supporters say the change is necessary for personal protection amid growing threats, while opponents argue county buildings are already secure and that allowing more weapons could make conflicts more dangerous.
