ROGER LAW: Luigi Mangione's Plea Deal, Transportation Tax & Flock Cameras

View descriptionShare

Luigi Mangione, accused of killing UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson in 2024, ultimately pleaded guilty to federal stalking charges on August 14, 2026, after ABC News initially reported that a plea agreement was expected.

Fresno County has launched a high-stakes legal fight over the Better Roads, Safe Streets transportation-tax initiative, arguing that AB 1923 unlawfully forced a local measure onto the November ballot. While the Board of Supervisors wants the vote delayed until March 2028, Elections Clerk James Kus says state law requires a November election. The ultimate decision will likely rest with a judge in the coming weeks.

The debate over Flock license-plate cameras and other surveillance technology in Fresno is continuing, and Fresno police are now considering a program that could significantly expand the number of cameras available to law enforcement through voluntary participation by residents and neighborhoods.
