Trump Wants SAVE America Act Passed

The Guardian reports that a Pentagon database update now shows 18 U.S. troops killed and 624 wounded in the Iran war. The controversy centers on the Pentagon's decision to temporarily move four recently killed soldiers and hundreds of casualties into a separate "Overseas Operations" category, raising questions about how the military is counting and presenting the human cost of the conflict. 

Trump is demanding that Senate Republicans remain in Washington until they pass the SAVE America Act, a voting-restrictions bill requiring proof of citizenship and voter ID. Senate Majority Leader John Thune says Republicans currently lack the votes to pass the bill or eliminate the filibuster, setting up a growing conflict between Trump and Senate GOP leadership ahead of the 2026 midterm elections.

Federal authorities allege that Missouri House candidate Thomas Christopher Ross orchestrated a scheme to frame his Republican primary rival by planting cocaine and Adderall in her belongings and then reporting her to police. The plot allegedly unraveled when his own campaign manager went to law enforcement instead of carrying it out. Ross now faces a federal criminal charge as calls grow for him to leave the race. 

The Hollywood Reporter article examines the aftermath of celebrity blogger Perez Hilton's highly public mental health crisis in August 2026, when he livestreamed apparent self-harm on TikTok, was hospitalized, and sparked a broader debate about online culture, public shaming, and the responsibilities of social media platforms.
