Fourth of July, Fights, Fireworks & Fire Crews

View descriptionShare

Rondy Packard Sr., 70, was reported missing after he failed to return from a fishing trip on the morning of June 28. A resident reported seeing him that afternoon driving his Nissan pickup truck eastbound on Trimmer Springs Road near Pine Flat Lake.

A Fresno man's dog likely saved his life by waking him when a fire broke out behind his home on the Fourth of July. The blaze, which damaged the house, vehicles, and a nearby vacant home, is believed to have been caused by fireworks and was one of at least 14 residential fires Fresno firefighters responded to in a two-hour span that night.

What started as a holiday celebration in Newport Beach turned into a major public-safety incident, resulting in 402 arrests, a massive police response, multiple fires, injuries, and property damage.

Fresno firefighters faced one of their busiest nights of the year on the Fourth of July, responding to 203 fire-related incidents and multiple house fires linked to illegal fireworks. At least three homes were damaged, and emergency resources became so stretched that crews briefly suspended medical-aid responses while fighting fires across the city.
