Fourth of July celebrations in the Central Valley are becoming more expensive due to higher costs for groceries, fireworks, and fuel. While gas prices have recently declined, a new gas-tax increase and heavy holiday travel may offset some of those savings. Meanwhile, families can expect to pay more for traditional barbecue foods and fireworks compared with last year.
Trump argued that falling oil prices should translate into much cheaper gasoline and warned retailers against what he described as price gouging. He called for prices near $2.50 per gallon, threatened unspecified “big problems” for retailers that do not lower prices, and said the Justice Department is already examining whether consumers are being overcharged.
Central Valley Honor Flight continues to provide memorable Washington, D.C., trips for local veterans, but organizers say future flights depend on community support. While August and September flights are secure, the October trip faces a $150,000 funding shortfall and could be canceled unless additional donations are received.
