SB 1013 is essentially California's attempt to put stronger guardrails around license plate surveillance. The bill would limit how ALPR data can be shared, reduce long-term retention of vehicle-tracking information, require stronger auditing and security controls, and restrict use of the data to specified law-enforcement and missing-person investigations. If enacted, it would represent one of the most significant state-level privacy regulations governing license plate readers in the country.  

A team of researchers from the Netherlands, the UK, the US, and Hong Kong found evidence that people who use profanity more frequently may actually be more honest, not less. The study, published in Social Psychological and Personality Science, challenged the common assumption that swearing is associated with poor character or dishonesty.
