CA Kills Surveillance Camera Regulation Again

California once again declined to tighten regulations on Flock Safety and other license plate reader systems, despite years of legislative efforts and growing privacy concerns. Supporters say the technology enables mass surveillance and needs stronger safeguards, while law enforcement argues it remains one of the most effective tools available for solving crimes and locating missing people. For now, the state's existing rules remain in place. 

Jevon Martinez posted videos of himself removing Flock camera towers after Bernalillo County had already canceled its contract with Flock Safety earlier in 2026. Martinez argued that the cameras should have been removed and claimed he was simply helping authorities finish the job.

A powerful overnight storm swept through the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area, bringing damaging winds, heavy rain, and lightning that caused widespread power outages, toppled trees, and disrupted schools and transportation across the region. 

After being listed as missing and later presumed dead since World War II, Sgt. Adolph "Chico" Aguirre of Exeter has finally been identified 82 years after his bomber was shot down over Italy. His family will now be able to give him a proper burial in his hometown, bringing closure to a story that began in 1943. 

Labor Day 2026 is shaping up to be the costliest Labor Day travel weekend on record, with national gas prices above $4 per gallon and California averaging nearly $5.80. Even so, nearly 50 million Americans are expected to travel, resulting in heavy traffic, crowded airports, and increased travel expenses across the country.

When U.S. operations against Iran began roughly six months ago, administration officials described the campaign as a limited action intended to avoid a lengthy military commitment. According to the Journal, the Pentagon is now moving toward an open-ended deployment strategy designed to preserve military options for President Trump. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has approved plans that could keep significant U.S. military forces in the Middle East into 2027.  

The U.S. Navy aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln arrived at Laem Chabang, Thailand, after an extraordinarily long deployment that kept the ship at sea for more than 200 consecutive days, including extensive operations in the Middle East.  

The Politico article describes growing alarm on Capitol Hill after members of Congress and their staff were shown demonstrations of how modern AI systems can rapidly assemble detailed personal dossiers on ordinary Americans using commercially available data. The briefings left lawmakers from both parties concerned about privacy, surveillance, and the potential misuse of AI. 

MMIWG2SLGBTQQIA+ is not the name of a new identity category. It is an advocacy and policy acronym referring to Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, Two-Spirit, and LGBTQIA+ people, primarily in the Canadian context. Its purpose is to draw attention to violence affecting Indigenous communities and to ensure that a broad range of affected groups are included in those discussions.
