The California Legislature and Gov. Gavin Newsom have enacted a new law requiring advertisers to clearly tell consumers when advertisements prominently feature AI-generated performers rather than real people. The law, SB 1050, takes effect on January 1, 2027.

Christian Bale, his wife Sandra "Sibi" Blazic, and their nonprofit team spent nearly two decades working to create a unique foster-care community called Together California. The project's core goal is simple but significant: prevent brothers and sisters in foster care from being separated when they enter the system. Foster-care experts cited in the article say sibling relationships are often the most important remaining family connection for children who have lost parental care.

A new investigation by WIRED examines whether Flock Safety, the company behind one of America's fastest-growing networks of automated license-plate-reader cameras, still manufactures its hardware in the United States as prominently as it once claimed. The article concludes that the answer is increasingly unclear because the company now provides much less information about where its cameras are assembled.  

A hacker collective called stegan0gram physically removed a Flock Safety license-plate-reader camera, copied its internal storage, and discovered an encryption key stored on the device itself. Using that key, they accessed thousands of videos and images that the company had previously suggested would be inaccessible even if someone obtained the hardware.  

The Washington Post reports that artificial intelligence is dramatically increasing the danger posed by the Pentagon's aging computer systems. Senior military cyber leaders say vulnerabilities have increased tenfold as AI enables attackers to find and exploit weaknesses more efficiently, creating growing concern that decades of deferred IT modernization could leave critical U.S. defense networks exposed to future cyberattacks.
