The Washington Post reports that U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro has convened an unusual special grand jury to investigate issues involving children and young people in Washington, D.C., including scrutiny of D.C. Public Schools (DCPS) and the city's oversight of youth services. 

Fresno Unified says eliminating district-funded field trips is a necessary budget measure and reflects what many school districts already do, relying on school sites and fundraising rather than central funding. Critics, including the teachers union and some parents, argue the move could disproportionately affect lower-income students and reduce access to educational experiences outside the classroom. The debate is likely to continue as community members press the district to reconsider the cuts.
